Before 1960s

1830

Ihei Sogo opened Yamatoya, the foundation of the company (later Sogo Co., Ltd.), near Zama Shrine in Osaka.

1920

Toshio Yoshikawa (uncle of Honorary Chairman Masatoshi Ito) opened clothing store "Yokado" in Asakusa, Tokyo.

1940

Musashino Railway (later Seibu Railway) established Musashino Department Store (later The Seibu Department Stores, Ltd.).

1958

April
Yokado Co., Ltd. (later Ito-Yokado Co., Ltd.) was established.

1961

Ito-Yokado initiated its regular chain policy.

Business alliance with Benimaru Shoji(later York-Benimaru Co., Ltd.),a supermarket in Fukushima Prefecture.

The Loft CO., LTD. was made a wholly owned subsidiary of Millennium Retailing, Inc.
