This is a food loss reduction initiative being promoted by seven organizations: six business operators – our company, ROYAL HOLDINGS Co., Ltd. (Fukuoka-shi, Fukuoka), SRS HOLDINGS CO., LTD. (Osaka-shi, Osaka), NIPPON HOTEL Co., Ltd. (Toshima-ku, Tokyo), Keio Plaza Hotel Co., Ltd. (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo) and Aleph Inc. (Sapporo-shi, Hokkaido) – and the municipal government in Suginami-ku, Tokyo.
The mottECO Project is a food loss reduction action promoted by the mottECO Promotion Consortium comprised of the above seven organizations. If customers are not able to completely eat their food when dining out, these organizations give them a special container to take it home with them at their own responsibility. The purpose is to promote and raise awareness of a culture to take home leftover food with you at your own responsibility.
This initiative was adopted as a FY2023 Model Project for Promoting Creation of Zero Food Loss and Waste Areas by the Ministry of the Environment on May 30 (Tue), 2023.

What Is the mottECO Project?

This mottECO name won the grand prize at the New Doggy Bag Idea Contest. This was a contest held by the Ministry of the Environment to spread the concept of taking home leftover food from restaurants as a more familiar part of our culture based on mutual understanding between customers and restaurants. The mottECO logo is a design which expresses the smiles put on people’s faces from eating tasty food, eliminating waste and personally contributing to the environment by taking home leftover food.

The FY2023 Food Loss and waste Reduction Promotion Award was held to promote food loss reduction initiatives as a national movement by recognizing those who are engaged in excellent food loss reduction initiatives which can be expected to be effective and have a ripple effect.
The award was made based on a strict judging process by a judging panel consisting of experts on five areas: the ripple effect and future prospects, contribution and results, feasibility, spirit of innovation, and continuity.

The FY2023 Food loss and waste Reduction Promotion Award

The award ceremony is scheduled to be held as part of the program for the National Convention for Food Loss and waste Reduction in Kanazawa to be held in Kanazawa-shi, Ishikawa Prefecture on October 30 (Mon). In addition to attending the award ceremony, the mottECO Promotion Consortium will participate in the panel and booth exhibitions to introduce its activities.
