Customers’ Own Desires Lead to Social Contribution:Further Evolution of the Seven Mile Program

The Seven Mile Program provides new shopping experiences to customers. Those experiences include being able to save miles in everyday shopping and being able to redeem miles for various benefits. Did you know that in addition to redeeming the miles you have saved for products and services, you can use them in ways that lead to social contribution with donations? This initiative for social contribution is rapidly evolving. We introduce its evolution here.

Increase in the Number of Donation Recipient Organizations to Meet the Diverse Hopes of Our Customers to Provide Support

We want to make social contribution activities even more familiar and even easier to participate in. From that hope, we began this initiative to allow our customers to use miles from the Seven Mile Program to make donations. It was possible to select from 10 donation recipient organizations as of March 2022 last year. However, we increased that number to 24 organizations in June 2023 to meet the diverse hopes of each of our customers to provide support.
The specific activities of the donation recipient organizations include support for developing countries, support for tree planting and growing, support for raising guide dogs, support for children with incurable diseases, support for single parents and children, support for children with disabilities, support for economically disadvantaged households, contributions to funds to support the future of children.

Moreover, in addition to donations to provide support in Japan, we enable donations to be put to use overseas including support for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), support to protect the natural environment, support for refugees, food aid to Ukraine, and emergency support for the earthquake in Türkiye. We are creating an environment where it is possible to use miles to participate in an extensive range of support activities. That allows us to serve as a bridge to connect the various desires of our customers to provide assistance with donation recipient organizations.

We remit the miles donated by our customers to various organizations to be used to contribute to medical welfare, resolve environmental problems and social issues and to help various other support activities. Those funds are being used in initiatives to contribute to society.

Donations from 10 Miles a Time to Reliably Deliver the Desires of Our Customers

We have not just evolved the Seven Mile Program in terms of increasing the number of donation recipient organizations. We previously accepted donations from 50 miles a time. However, we changed the system to be able to accept donations from 10 miles a time from July 2023 in response to the request from our customers to be able to make donations more easily.
Moreover, increasing the number of donation recipient organizations means that customers can now select organizations according to their needs. That has led to an increase in the number of donations to 109%* of what it was the previous year. In addition to that, customers can now donate from a small number of miles. That has made it easier to participate in social contribution activities. We would like even more people in the future to participate in this program with an interest in making donations.

Continuing to Do What We Can for Society with Our Customers

The total amount donated through the Seven Mile Program now exceeds 133 million miles (as of the end of June 2023).
The donation recipients which received the biggest response in particular among them are as follows:
●Support for the earthquake in Türkiye
●Emergency support for Ukraine
●Support for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders)
●Support for the Nippon Foundation aimed at children with incurable diseases
●Support for raising guide dogs
The areas in which the donation recipients are involved vary, but the hopes of our customers to support someone are the same. We have received many comments on social media saying, “I decided to make a donation to help, even if only in a small way, someone.”

Customers nowadays tend to think and act for themselves in terms of what they can do to solve social issues. We will continue to further expand the donation contents anticipating all needs to also connect the desires of our customers to provide support with organizations which need that support.
We will evolve the Seven Mile Program to make social contribution even more familiar and easier in the future. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to each one of our customers for making these donations possible.
