Early education for the young generation is an important part of improving the residents' awarenes of forest sustainability. LATIN staff teach elementary school students the importance of the forest and the environment through fun games, to help their understanding (1). The staff and community leaders show the students how to make seedlings, and they plant trees in the school backyard together (2). By planting trees that bear fruit, such as avocado trees, the students can earn money by selling the crops at local markets, and the money is used for school activity. In this way they can learn that making a profit and conserving the forest are not mutually exclusive activities.
